- NetFronts would like to make you aware that your domain
name is
not renewed
automatically with your web hosting. We will renew the
domain name for you when you request it, but it's important
for you to remember that your domain name and web hosting
are two separate entities and need to be individually renewed
to maintain your web presence. While your web hosting service
with NetFronts will renew automatically and must be cancelled
to discontinue, the domain registration will expire on
a certain date and must be renewed to continue.
We have three very
important reasons why we cannot renew domain registrations
automatically. Many domains are registered
through companies other than NetFronts. So even if your
web hosting is with NetFronts, the domain name may not
be registered with NetFronts and therefore we cannot renew
or update the domain. Second, domains are not automatically
renewed because often customers decide to let the registration
expire and do not continue using the domain name. The charge
for domain renewals is non-refundable and we cannot assume
that our customers want a domain name renewed and charge
them for it. Lastly, the domain renewal cannot be cancelled
once it’s been renewed, which is also why NetFronts
must receive payment at the time of the domain renewal.
If you have a domain
registration that is very important to you, please be
mindful of the expiration date. Upon
the expiration of a domain name, there is a window of approximately
30 days in which the owner can reclaim his/her domain name
without penalty. After this time, a "Redemption Grace
Period" has been put in place for .com and .net domain
registrations by ICANN. While in this status, a
domain can be retrieved only by the previous registrant
for a
fee of $199.99, which does not include the renewal fee.
Following the 30-day redemption period, the domain is then
placed in Pending Delete status for five days, after which
time it will be available for registration by anyone. The
grace period for .org domain registrations is significantly
shortened.
To avoid this fee or
domain expiration, please verify that the administrative
contact email listed within the
domain record is still active so you do not miss emailed
notices that your site registration is expiring. If your
domain name was registered with NetFronts, as a courtesy,
we will notify you in advance that your domain registration
is about to expire. NetFronts uses the email information
listed within the domain registration record to notify
you. Even if you update your web hosting account contact
information, your domain registration needs to be updated
separately.
To check the registration
and contact information on your domain registration,
please conduct a WHOIS search
by typing your domain name into the “Whois” field.
Enter the key that appears and click on the Whois>> button.
Your domain record will appear as you scroll down. You
may update your domain through the domain
management tool on our website. If you have questions
about the process for updating
the domain record, please contact
us and be sure to include the domain name with your
inquiry.
Please understand that
the domain redemption fee is not imposed by NetFronts,
but is a fee imposed by ICANN (Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers), the entity that mandates all
.com and .net domains on the
Internet.
